Does anyone have alot of experience with the IS300 and snow?
Hi,
I was told by a local repair guy that the IS300 does not handle snow very well. I have a prelude right now and it does good for itself in the snow.
I know a lot of it depends on tires so any person with real world experience with snow could chime in to help me?
I ski quite a bit and this upcoming winter I am scared this car won't have the desired traits to handle snow.
Thnaks for your input it is really appreciated.

I haven't driven my IS in snow, but I don't see why it wouldn't handle fine in snow. Like you said, it can depend on the tires, but the other major difference between the IS and your Prelude is that it is rear-wheel drive. Driving a rear-wheel drive car in slippery conditions is a little different.
You just have to be careful not to accelerate too hard around a turn and have your rear end swing out. BTW, I have driven other RWD cars in the snow, just not my IS because there's not much snow in the Bay Area.

Terrible is the word you're looking for. The car is absolutely terrible in the snow. And yes, it's all about the tires. I have an '04 auto and was stranded in my drive way after a nightmarish trip up my hill, in the snow on the way to work.
Yes I did the "snow" button. No I was not screwing around. The stock tires left a little to be desired for snow traction (like almost none).
I will be investing in some Blizacks this year. Tire rack did a winter tire test over last winter and they actually used the IS as their test vehicle. The Blizacks did the best in their test.
If anything, it's better to be safe than sorry. If your going to be traveling into the snow for recreation, I'd highly suggest you look into some sort of traction device or "true" winter tires for your rig. I'm lazy, so tires are a better route for me. I'm also not certain of clearance for traction devices (cables/chains).
My Dad has been running the same set of Blizacks for three seasons. He puts them on when the weather is "suppose" to start turning ugly and takes them off by Feburary.
