Default How do I tell if a car has a limited slip diff?

Aside from doing a burnout and seeing if there are two marks or one, is there any option code or package that would indicate this? I am looking at several 2001s and I want a concrete way to know this...

thanks

Look for the following code(s) on the chasis sticker with the driver's side door open.

B01B for M/T

and

B02C for A/T

Correct me if I am wrong.

Also, it's fairly rare on the 01's.

I don't think it was available at all on the 2001's. It became an option on the 2002's.....along with several other significant new options.

And unless you drive a lot on slippery surfaces, or, as you say, want to do burnouts, you probably won't need it.

On any 2001 IS300 the car must have heated seats before having LSD. Although my 2001 IS300 has
heated seats, it doesnt have LSD.

If you want to have a quick check, jack up the rear by the diff carrier, and spin one of the tires, if both tires
spins the same way you have a LSD.

nop, not in this case. the is300 has the torsen type lsd. if both wheels are off the ground, you spin one wheel and the other will still go in the other direction

My apologies, I was going by my old 94 BMW 325is has the same type diff. In the air they spin opposite
sides (open) while my M3 Turbo spins the same way in the air (closed) and we call that LSD.

Maybe Im thinking the TRD diff is the true LSD while both tires spin the same way in the air?

From having worked at lexus dealerships as a intern for the last two years, I know that almost all 2001 SBM IS300 came stock with LSD if you had the leather/escaine package. I also own an 2001 SBM IS300 too with LSD. The LSD really does help you alot when exiting corners hard or if you have FI. Hope that helps.

That's not true for most 2001 SBM IS300. You have to remember, most of the Southern States is serviced by a distributor i.e. JM Family Enterprises aka South Eastern Toyota/Lexus, not TMS or Lexus USA directly. That could be an option/color combo that district happens to order in that combo. It's not necessarily what comes from the factory nor what is distributed by Lexus USA from Japan to the ports.
