Default 06 IS Overhead Console-Pic

Not sure this has been discussed yet, Anyone know what is just below the overhead light in this pic? What are those 4 holes on each side? What would that round looking dial be just below the light? Where would the button be for the sunroof?

I'm pretty sure the big round **** is for the controls of the sunroof. I couldn't get a real close look at the show car from 10ft away.

Everytime I see that pic it reminds me of the vast expanse of nothingness of the pass side dash - couldn't they have added a little shelf or something to break that up?

Looks like the circular buttons are for the maplights and moonroof controls...and LED spotlights? The **** could be for the overhead lighting. I hope they didn't make that the control for the moonroof tilt/open/close.

That moon roof control look just like the one on the Audi cars. A friend has a older model A6 and I like that style ***! I haven't sat in a Mercedes so I don't know how they have their moon room controls!

In the GS, there are 4 "holes", 2 are shaped like the set of 8 pictured in the IS, which house LED's that light up the center console. Next to them are bigger "holes", containing 3 led's which are lap spotlights. I'm guessing those are lap spotlights pictured in the IS, since there are buttons next to them

Here is a closer shot of what we have so far. So you think the new IS will have those cool LED's like in the GS? Why would you need that white overhead light along with the smaller circle LED lights?

How does the sunroof work with a dial? I'm not familar with that kind of ****. I've always used the button type, push button back to open/close. Has Lexus used a circle **** for the sunroof before? What about the Garage Door-Links? Where are those?

That is a good point about the bigger white reflector. It's probable because that large light will illuminate the vehicle when you open your doors or when you turn it on manually. Maplights are different in that you can turn them on in the night and the light is only focused to the driver or passenger only. We'll have to wait and see.

If the sunroof was to work as a dial (which I hope it will not) there should be 3 detents. Close, Tilt Up and Open. This is not a traditional Lexus design. Garage door buttons aka Home Link are located on the rear view mirror. You can faintly see the numbering on the bottom portion of the mirror. Like in the new GS:

Never driven a Audi or VW, have you?

You turn the **** according to how much you want the sunroof to open. If you want it open all the way, turn the **** all the way to "open". Want it open half way, then turn the **** half way between "open" and "close". I think this design is way cool, as the Lexus traditional one-touch buttons doesn't give you a convenient way to open the sunroof to, say, 1/4th open position.

I don't know if this control is gonna work the same way in the IS, but I do hope Lexus adopt this control.

Well Lexus did say they are aiming at BMW right? That **** would be another manifastation of it. Give the IS a more German feel to the moonroof controls, but probably a better implementation of that good idea. The more details come out about the IS the more obvious it is on how close they want to make the car a better implementation of the 3 series idea.

Never seen a moonroof **** on BMWs or MBs, so I wouldn't say it's a German thing.

They are practically used in all VW's and Audi's. Porsche uses it also on their Cayenne. Some American cars have it too, but I dont remember which one. It looked so much cheaper than the Germans though.
