i have a 01 cd player problem too,but nothing to what you guys described, my cd just skips alot, never locked up,but now i know that its commen problem, i am going to take my car to the dealership now!!!

well i just got back from trying to fix my cd palyer, i got turned down , they told me to play REAL cds and see if the problem still occurs, even if i didnt get it fixed, atleast i walked out with free food
what problems is the 01 IS300 cd player sopose to be? so i can tell the dealership
my warrenty expires next month

see you got the line about using burned CD's as well. What you need to do is do your research and then like overwelm the service guy with facts till he fixes your CD player. Try this: The CD player in your car should be compatible with CD-R's since "the MultiRead specification was created by OSTA in 1997 to provide hardware manufacturers with the requirements necessary to make CD-ROM drives and recorders read CD-RW discs." Thats right... 1997... your car was made after that. Most regular CD-R's come in standard 12 cm (120 mm) sizes and conform to Orange Book Specifications. The only ones that do no are the novelty ones shaped like business cards and such. In order to "make absolutly sure" that the CD is not the problem you need to make sure you are using a 650 mb or 700 mb CD and not anything like the 300 mb, 790 mb, and 870 mb CD-R disks since they do not conform to Orange Book specifications and may not be readable in all drives. tommorow im going to try take it in , im just going to tell them my cd player is getting jammed and it has a " error" when trying to play. cause thats what is really happening
