Can anyone explain this or better yet possibly a pic (of another car) of what this might look like? Was this an option on the previous IS? Does the new GS have this? Is this something in the line of the soft glow overhead lights like on the new GS? Or is it lights that shine down on the ground to help entry & exit of the vehicle?

The SC 430 has that feature... it is like light blue color, i'm not sure if the current IS has it or the new GS.

My mom's 04 RX has that, I'll take a pic when she gets back with it. It's really cool but somehow got left out on the 06 GS

Edit:
The current IS does not, nor does the new GS (for some reason). It's a $500+ option on a Mercedes-Benz... but then again "Mercedes-Benz" is German for "overpriced"...

Wow...very cool and classy looking indeed.
I never knew Lexus offered such an accessory. Is it just a UK thing or is it available in the US too? I would've gotten it if I knew it had been offered when I bought my ES.

Did anyone notice this on the models shown at the auto shows debuting the new IS? I sure hope this is a US standard on the new IS. I think this is a really cool feature. Nothing like opening your door to see this, just an impressive "little" detail.

This is one car I am anxiously awaiting to see this Sept.

Yes, I hope the IS does have it. My 04 RX330 has it and it is kind of cool. Only problem on the RX it is a light amber color (More orange). I wanted to change the color to blue, but I haven't had the chance to open it up and see inside yet.

Well the current LS et al have silver, non-illuminated scruff plates...very classy if you ask me. Now they're illuminated? How about on the new GS? I think choice of color would be good. Of course this might be part of the 'seamless anticipation' lightup strategy used by Lexus as you walk toward the car...
