this Apexi S-afc, will it help just a stock IS300??
and if so, where do i order one from ??/
also, exactly what does it do?? is it like the vtec controler on acruas and hondas?? thanks, im kinda interested but real confused on somethings..
i think i saw a pic of one installed, but i wasnt sure...
S-AFC = Super Air Fuel Controller, basically controls the air/fuel ratio, air flow, fuel amount, and alof ot things related to air and fuel.

It will help a stock IS300, because it can optimize the air and fuel cruve. The difference will probably not be as much as if you've changed intake and exhaust, but you can always tune those later.

VTEC controllers control the VTEC timing, and Toyota/Lexus use VVTi (you should know this). VVTi is continuous, so it's hard to make a controller for (I think HKS has one in development), it's not like a 2-stage setting on VTECs that's easy to control.

You can get it installed and tuned at either XS Engineering or Area 51, both in So.Cal. As for ordering one, you can look around for the best prices.

Try finding someone to get the S-AFC from Japan. The list price right now is 38,000 JPN, but some shops can sale it for 30,000 JPN. Anyone know the exchange rate right now?

That's my plan. I buy Japanese magazines on a regular basis, and compare prices of new and older electronic parts with the US.

30000 yen is roughly 240 bucks. That's REALLY good compared to the US.

The cheapest I've seen is 27000 yen, which is around 220 dollars.

Here's the price I got
- Area 51, $550 for install, tuning, and dyno (if u got S-AFC somewhere else)
- XS engineering, $150 for install, $45 for dyno (single run), and $150/hour for tuning (not sure though)
- Dynamic Autosports, $100 for install, $175 for tuning+dyno.
...So, I think I'm going to get it install at Dynamic Autosports for sure.

$550 for installation, tuning, dyno at Area51? That's a lot on top of having to buy the safc yourself. wow.

MarkK, where's Dynamic Autosports?

Thanks.

hmmm, Area 51 is pretty expensive..... I don't know man, sounds like a big rip off. Install, tuning, and dyno are all labor work. 550 for a couple hours seems too much, TOTALLY.

Dynamic Autosports i've heard some good things about. XS, no doubt they know how to do it right.

Let us know what the outcomes are. Thanks.

I'm going to Dynamic soon after I get my intake... There was an IS300 featured on Turbo magazine awhile ago. The S-AFC was done by Dynamic, and the result was good. 14 hp gained @ the wheels.
