I am getting the new 2002 with the NAV screen. I have been told that the screen will only show the NAV disk and won't play a regular DVD. Is that true? Seems like a major waste. Is there anyone who has modded the system to be a normal DVD also?

Would be great to park and play a movie in the car.

Let me know.

yup..that's true! most nav system's can't play regular dvd's cuz they don't have the software to do it. but there is one lexus that can play dvd's while in park, the lx470.

usually stock nav systems don't have outputs in which you can plug a dvd player into the screen!

I figured the problem was 2-fold. No software to understand the DVD and no mpeg-2 card on board. Buuuuut....some computer person could easily build a box that would splice into the system and use the screen. I know he/she could sell me one tomorrow if they made it!!

it is possible with some modification to plug up a dvd player and play it through the navigation screen.
