Thinking about moving to D.C. for possible career change, for something on the hill. How is traffic and is it worth bringing my car? Lived pretty much my entire life in So. Cal. I am use to the traffic here, however what is traffic like on the east and how about the parking situation?
Is it advisable to get a smaller car for parking issues, or something like an SUV to traverse your winters? Would an IS300 with snow tires survive the weather as well as the urban "elements" in D.C.? Thanks.

my opinion
I've lived in Cali all my life too. In Diamond Bar to be exact, so Cal. winter it snows in december and you might see snow on the ground till february. very unlikely though. if you live in virginia or anywhere else. you can take the metro into town. keep the IS and by a beater. Like a old *** pick-up. you'll love having it around anyways
my 2 cents

Our snow around here is not a big deal in terms of the snow itself, the problem is all the dang fool drivers, whether in SUVs or not, who are totally clueless about how to drive in the snow. You certainly don't need an SUV to get through the snow. Nevertheless, the region just about stops a couple of times a year for a day or two after a snow.
If you live in DC, you may be able to keep your car parked most of the time, and use the Metro. But you'll still want a car for weekends and excursions, 'cause the world still revolves around having wheels. The only place you would want to live carless on the east coast is Manhattan.
If you're trying to escape suburban hell, don't move to northern virginia. It has all the bad parts of living in the city, and all the bad parts of living in the suburbs. If you're young and single, it's hard to beat living in DC, which is a blast.
Now that I'm not so young and not so single, I live in Baltimore, which has tons of character, and affordable real estate.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the great info. Nothing permanent yet. Just thinking that I need a change from so. cal. Right now on my list is D.C. or Portland, OR. If I end up going to Portland, I may end up working for Subaru. As for D.C. have no idea yet. Sister and Bro-in-law all heavily into the beltway lobbying scene, so they want another convert. Or perhaps I will become an Intern, hopefully no congresswoman will wack me, I graduated from USC too.

well I live about 45 min from DC in Baltimore too. I run my IS with snow tires and it does fine.. The thing I hate is the other drivers. The first sighn of rain and they all panic... Other great parts of it out here. we have the only factory lexus team based out here....
