Question

OK, i know this may seem like a dumb question...but im in the market for a nice looking, economic car to cruise around in...
performance is NOT an issue here since i already have a c5 corvette...but that thing eats gas like crazy...and plus i want more than a 2 seater...
i know this is a LEXUS forum...but truthfully...
i want some unbias answers ok???
ehehe thanx!

what about an SE-R? is300 is not really the car to buy if youre looking to conserve gas.

I would have to agree, the IS300 is not a fuel efficient car, better than a vette, but not an economy car. I've been looking at getting a Protege 5 or MP3 as an economy car so I don't have to drive my IS300 to work everyday. I haven't driven one yet, but the reviews seem pretty good.

I would get the IS over those Mazdas. I like the MP3 but Mazda quality is no where near Lexus and u will probably be buying another Mazda in a few yrs. while the Lexus IS will last a long time. If u want an economy car, get the 21,000-25,000 Honda Insight.

The new RSX is pretty economical. The Insight is a good choice. The TDI Jetta is supposedly pretty quick (tons of torque) and gets 50+mpg. Ford Focus should be pretty fuel thrifty, too; probably uses reg gas

I was actually looking at buying the Protege 5 for the wife to replace the mini-van. Of course she does not care what car as long as it's not a mini-van. So I went with something that I will not be embarassed to drive - Protege 5. It has room (station wagon style), economical, and a 2.0 engine. I test drove one (although it was an automatic) and it did not have the pick up that I was hoping to get but it does handle very well in corners. On the other hand I was just probably used to my IS. But if I did buy it ( my wife wanted a bigger ride, I bout a Camry) I think I can live with it. There is a Mazda web site for Mazda owners and you can get a lot of feedback form the owners of the old Protege. I don't think you'll go wrong with a Protege 5 or MP3 if you decide to buy one of them. The look is nice and clean and zips fast through corners. Zoom! Zoom!

Default Easy Solution

RSX is correct whoever posted that. But get the type S. Mid twenties, gets good gas mileage when your not mashing it and it still runs to sixty in the sixes. Plus you have Honda reliability and a six speed box.

Default a lil more than 2 cents

just one more thing....if you can afford a lexus you can afford gas....but if you cant afford the gas then a one of those mazdas are the key...but the only cool thin g i see og those mp3 is that they come with 17" racing harts...that pretty cool...but other than that i liek the IS better

After a complete rebuild of a mazdaspeed protege, and owning an IS, Lexus would be the ONLY way to go. Mazda design and build quality isn't near what the IS is. Even the Protege owner w/ about $40k into it, looked at my mostly stock IS last night (even filthy) said he should have bought an IS. lol

I got an average of 17-19mpg with my IS300 with city/freeway driving, mildly aggressive driving.

It's not a gas hog, but not civic like efficient.

I have a Mazda Protege MP3 and I love it! You can see more about my car @ www.mazdafamilia.com , I work on Lexus cars at a lexus dealership and I don't know which one I would rather have. I love my car for what it is. But on the other hand it is no lexus. If you have any questions about the Protege 5 or the MP3 let me know I will help you out.
