ok someone please help me out here..
if i WANTED to get the headers, WHAT would i HAVE to do inorder to make them PASS the CALI smog test??
i know that just adding headers WONT Do it since it removes ALL the catalytic converters..so what would i NEED TO DO???
do i have to keep the stock cats in to pass, or have a custom one (or two or three) put in to pass the smog test..
..keeping in mind that i want a LEGAL Is300, and i LIVE IN CALI..
thanks for you help..

dpatterson,
Ok guys correct me if I am wrong. But on the stock manifold there are two cats on them one for each three sections, then you have one on the pipe in the middle of your car. The Headers it looks like has just a small resignator on the end of the Y pipe. It does not have any cats on it. So no you will not have any kind of catalytic converer... However, I am not to sure what all they do for imision tests in California but you might be able to pass with out any cats if you do a few things. First of all if they do a visual inspection and are smart about cars then you might be hosed if they don't see or think there is a catalytic converter on the car. if they don't do a visual to look for the converters then try adding 2 or 3 bottles of gas line antifreeze and filling up with something like BP gas high octain or something with a high alcohol content. Make sure you have a new filter and good plugs. Run the car hard for about 30 min to 40 minutes then take it for the imisions test. It should pass!! The gas line antifreeze will hide the hydrocarbons and make it seem fine.. if your car is running tooo rich for any reason it will not work.
Just a idea It has worked for me in the past on cars that won't pass Ohio imisions....

There's just no way to practically use this header in a daily driver if you live in Cali
.
Unless you want to swap headers everytime you smog the car.
And if you don't mind running the HUGE risk of running catless....the fines are $$$.
Sad to live in Cali.

really? getting me all worried over here. shame on you! i plan to either swap the headers for stock when inspection time comes or just pay the $120 bribe that my friend can get me. anyways our cars are new so we wont have to worry about that for some years. i think it is 96+ cars???

i guess if you wanted to make it legal mabye you could weld in a hiflow cat in the exahust system......but i reccommend just swapping out the header for stock when it comes to inspection times....mabye an hour or 2 of labor but a years worth of fun after that...ya know....its not a turbo or S/C....its just a header....
and Fairuza...your definitly not touching my keys......ill bite...be carefull...lol......

i wanted to know if that $650 you said was just the headers, or does it include install at toyomoto? if only headers, how much would it cost including installation? also, would it interfere with my Rod Millen Intake?

Hey is Toyomoto the only company that offers headers? I figured if I was going to spend that much on parts, ill get the one that maximizes the most hp. Is there any way headers can fail and ruin the car? Is it difficult to install yourself?
