I snowboard.. and I have one of those side window racks that hold 2 boards.

Those racks work great and I never had a problem with it.

if it works for you, the do it... I think those side racks are ghetto... The yakima rocks! I just made my first trip north this weekend and had 4 pair of skis and a snowboard in my rocket box, along with some gear. No problems!

After reading this thread, I took the plunge and added a Yakima Rack to the car. It is pretty sweet. The initial installation took 2.5 hours to ensure proper fitting, bar span, and positions of the Q-Towers.

For the SportCross, Yakima recommended using the Q111 Clip for the front bars and Q31 Clip for the rear bars. The rest of the rack system was the same as the IS300 Sedan counterpart: 48" cross bars, Q-Towers, SKS One Key Lock system.

I am using the 44" fairing which spans perfectly across the width of the roof.

Thanks all for the help and pictures. Here's some pictures of my car with the rack.

i personally think racks on these cars look hot, i love the look of a lowered car that has a rack on it, gives it some personality in my opinion

juniorsdad, you have a great looking IS. (i'm no skier of any kind or a biker so the rack is not that appealing to me) Anyway, I think your car looks great! Keep up the good work!

Loved the pic's of your Sportcross with Yakima Racks. Just bought an '04 Black Onyx SportX and now I'll know what the racks will look like.

Question: Did you have to buy two sets of 4 clips to come up with the Q111 fronts and the Q31 rears? Was this the Yakima recomendation? Any reason you might think that set-up won't work for my '04?

I've had Yakima's for over 20 years, and swear by them. But their idea of what worked on my last car ('02 WRX) did not do it for me. Your install seemed pretty sano... anything I should watch out for?

Thanks....

I Have a rack and a Thule box that I might sell.. I used to drive my IS in the snow but now I am just gonna keep it nice.
Only used one season. PM me if anyone is interested.

Yakima with q towers, fairing, and 48" cross bars.
No powderhound when I bought the rocket box. The box is an evoultion 2000

I had a Yakima rack on my SportCross, and it was great. I would recommend that you add some paint protection film, like that from Star Shield Armor, where the clips contact the paint. It will help keep the paint from chipping as the rack vibrates from use. When I removed the rack, I noticed small paint chips at the leading and trailing edges where the clips touched at the door frame. Part of this may have been the aftermarket paint job, but I'd put the film on just the same.
