New to Lexus....Ive got some questions
Im looking into getting an 01' or 02' Lexus Is300. most of the ones i am looking at have around 60 to 80,000 miles on them. Is this alot for an IS300? Also im looking to get a manual transmission, are they really hard to find? Is it pointless trying to find one? Also, are there any major problems that are typical with IS300's? And how expensive are parts for these cars? I own a volkswagen gti right now, and the parts for volkswagens are for most part very expensive. I think thats enough questions for now, I appreciate any help and advice, thanks.

That's a little high for the milage, but not insanely high. I think you'll have to look around a bit for a manual. They are not as common as the autos, but they are out there. Parts are expensive for Lexus, but the only real issues I hear about are the o2 sensors going out and the CD players failing. Other than that the only complaints you will hear are that they arent quite fast enough and the gas mileage sucks, about 22 highways miles to the gallon.
Despite those problems, I love my IS. I've had her a year now and put on almost 35k miles with the only problem being my cd player just locked up. Every time I see her, I think damn I love that car. I park in the garage with a Porsche, and I hardly even notice the Porche when I go out there.
I dont think you'll be unhappy with an IS. If you do buy one, put up some pics

I agree with the CD problem... I have the same problem in my IS. I was fortunate enough to find a manual. =) And I love it... My only complaint would be the CD player, which can be fixed or replaced by a different head unit, which is what I plan on doing.... I also bought mine with low mileage though.. 26K on a 2002. They are wonderful cars!

yup, cd player and o2 sensor here too ... you get over the gas milage sucking pretty fast tho because handles quite well. and you can do under the hood mods for increased hp etc

Thanks alot for the replies guys. What do u think is a reasonable price to be looking for? for an 02' with about 50 or 60,000 miles. Im not looking to exceed 16000. is this possible? How much did you pay?

i had the same problem with my o2 sensor and cd player. my 3 years extended warranty covered my o2 sensor though. i got my car with 43k miles for 21,000. although its auto and i hate that fact, the way it handles for how little power it has i am very happy. once you get all the suspension and what not hooked up itll handle better than a lot of cars out there.
if i were to pick any other car right now, it would have to be either a Supra, or s2k. within that price range at least. aside from that i love my car, if only it were manual. as much as i complain about my car, the only i find myself never complaining is when im driving it with a smile. that should say enough.

very well written by fellow is'ers. i owned mine for about 4 months now. and yes i had problems with o2 sensors and cd player. even though that i still look forward to put some mods. you will really be satisfied. i figured the mileage is pretty low, but hell just enjoy the ride.

I got my 2002 with 26K miles, manual for $21k.
My friend just picked up a 2002 auto with 70K miles for $16.
But if you keep looking Im sure you can find something reasonable at a good price. Good luck!

Figures, after I posted that, my CD player failed. Luckily I have a friend who's a service manager at Lexus and I'm still fairly close to my warranty, so they're going to get me a new one.
