Question about 2001 IS300
Hi Guys,
I'm going to look at a used 2001 Blue IS300 tomorrow at local dealer (not a Lexus dealer, but it's respectable). It has 15k on it, and my friend was already there and says it's gorgeous. It's the car I really wanted last May, but couldn't afford.
My question to everyone is regarding the trac/ecu problems that affected the 2001 model. I remember reading alot about it when I was shopping for a car. Is there anyway I can tell if this particular car is/was affected by it. Is their a TSB I could bring to the dealer in case the Trac/ECU work hasn't been performed?
I guess I'll have to check to see what tires it has after reading that sticky thread about the Bridgestone's... it would probably need new rubber after 15k, if those "performance tires" really wear as fast as they say they do.
Any other 2001 issues I should be aware of? The TRAC/ECU was the only one I recall...
Thanks a lot! I'm really excited, I hope this works out I'd love a 5-spd 2002, but it's just to much.

Service Information Bulletin:
TSIB EG003-01
The ECU reprogram update affects all IS300s whose VIN number is LOWER/BEFORE 10025186
The TRAC ECU replacement affects all IS300s whose VIN number is LOWER/BEFORE 10029014
There was an underbody panel recall also.

There is also the tire recall on all 2001 IS' that came with 17" wheels.
I also heard the antenna on the earlier IS' are longer (which is what I have) and were replaced with shorter antennas on later 2001 models and 2002. Supposedly there is bad reception on the longer antennas.
I believe the two ECU bulletins affect me but I have not gotten it done yet because I rarely leave the trac on and I like the shiftpoints my car has become familiar with.
I have gotten my underbody panel replaced. (Twice actually, the 2nd time was not actually needed but they did it during a warranty service not knowing I had did it already.)
I've had my stock stereo/cd unit replaced a few months ago because it ate my cds.
I also had the right headlamp replaced because the seal was loose and condensation was building up inside of it.
That's all I can think of for now. BTW, I love the damn car.
