Intake suggestions...
My friend just purchased an '03 is 300 and he is looking to purchase an intake. Is srt the only way to go? or will an aem or injen do fine?
what is the hp gain difference on all three? I believe the srt has gains of around 20hp, but no clue if the other two brands provide any gains or are they just for the look and noise. any help is appreciated, thanks.

if your friend doesnt care about cost the SRT is the way to go ... second seems to b the K&N fipk (10hp gain, cost ~$300) this is what i'm planning to get ... after that they all seem to be about the same

pretty much all intakes are the same thing... an open filter and a piece of pipe. All that really matters is which brand's sticker is on the pipe. HP gains will all be around the same, but will be no where near the claimed 20. Ebay has good deals.

The SRT claims to be around 22HP, which is by far the best gain, but it isnt street legal in most states. That means you will not pass smog with it on. Some people are using the CARB stickers from the KNN with an SRT and hoping the inspector is too stupid to know the difference.
The 1st gen versions of the AEM and Injens caused CEL's, but the newer ones dont. Stay away from the cheap ebay crap.

When you get the CEL, the car goes into limp mode is probably why you felt a power loss. Make sure the hoses are on right and make sure the O2 sensor is in right. Some intakes allow for the MAF to be put in backward. That will throw a CEL for sure.

I've got a spectre performance intake on mine and like it a lot. Great sound and the best thing is the ability to customize it. It comes in several parts so you could get enough pieces to do a cold-air intake. So on Monday if you want a ram-air you could have it and on Tuesday you could add a few pieces and have a cold-air. It's pretty cool.

from what i have read SRT is the best intake out there and there r dyno sheets 2 prove it if u plan on only going NA but if u plan on going turbo dont even bother with an intake save for the snail just my opinion

Plus some intakes are known to throw CEL.
Some doen't come with the heatshield.
LMS makes a CAI. SRT does make the most power due to its enormous size and the R-ecu that comes with it...
It does make a big difference

if your buddy is on a budget he should get the JoeZ intake pipe along with a drop in filter (blitz or K&N). the JoeZ pipe alone with a stock filter was proven to provide 7+ HP i believe? it's listed on my.is. GL w/the modding!

The best intake for the IS300 is the SRT. It also happens to be the most expensive. This is the link to the site for the intake and it explains how the Air/Fuel ECU works. http://www.swiftracing.com/vehicles/...take_is300.htm
