Future S4 could bring IS430
Hello to all. I recently went to the LA Auto Show and got some interesting info on the future Audi S4 (knowing that it is considered a rival to the is300) The Audi rep said that the new S4 will come out in one year with the S8 engine (v8, with 360hp). I figured this should be competition enough for Lexus to make the is430 available in the U.S. I know hp isn't everything, but it sure is nice to have that much in a small car.

personally, im against the idea of the IS430 hitting the US market! reason? because its gonna make the IS300 into lower division! i have to say that i been getting alot of attention with my car and... if the IS430 comes out, people are going to say IS300 is nothing! do u guys get the picture? i dunno thats what i think its gonna happen... just like the BMW 325 and the 330, and GS 300 compared to GS430...

The A4 is the car to compare the IS300 to NOT the S4. Besides, since when has Lexus cared (or had to for that matter) what the so-called competition is doing.
One example, they came out with the new ES, didn't even increase power (rumor has it they will eventually) and they are selling every one they can make. And it's ugly too!
Most people buy Lexus because of the engineering, the quality, durability and dealership experience.
I have friends that have Audi's and BMW's and have to bring them back to the dealership all the time for little issues. Never serious, always covered under warranty, but time consuming and bothersome nonetheless. Then they get a Buick for a loaner car.
I on the other hand, bring my Lexus for an oil change, get an new Lexus loaner, keep it all day and come back to pay only $30.
Owning a car is much more than how much HP is under the hood. It's the total experience that Lexus offers me. If all I wanted was V8 horsepower, I'd buy a Lincoln LS V8.

let me shed light on my small amount of knowledge about this subject -
1. as jroosh said, a4 = is300, not the s4. the s4 would be the equivilent of the m3 or a clk55amg.
2. i have not heard anything (reps at la auto show said NOTHING bout a v8 being put into the s4) about a v8 in a s4. the last i herd was a large six cylinder with a turbo some where around 360 or 380hp.
3. in 2004 or 2005 i believe bimmer will put an eight cylinder in the m3 stock. yikes! hartage's was awsome, cant imagine wait to see what the factory's is gonna be like.
4. redhwangso - there isnt a whole lot of difference between a 325 and 330 (i think its like 25 horses), and if the brought the IS430 even into production (you are using tte's version of it, it may not even be that beefy), it would be like the m3 - not everyone has one. sure, i guess you could say it would put the IS3 into a lower catagory, but no lower than a 330 is to a m3. the supercars from any company are different and higher by deffinition - they are "super". and keep in mind, as of now the IS430 is only an after market car!

bcc002 you made some good points.
I don't think that BMW is going to up the M3 very much. They don't need to. They just went from 240 hp (prior to '02) to 330 hp for 02. They just took a MASSIVE jump in how much power that car has. So of course Audi is going to have to do something to compete against the new M3. Everyone knows that our IS's are in a totally different league than M3's and S4's. Those guys blow us out of the water.
One response could be that TRD releases a very large SC for out cars, so that we can add them on later in order to boost our cars up to M3, and S4 power. They might even allow the TRD SC to co-exist with the power train warranty. From what little I know, current TRD SC's don't void the warranty. If this is the case I'll order one for sure.
Of course everything I'm saying is just speculation, and trying to understand what Toyota will do, and why they won't respond to Audi, and BMW.
