Default 2001 "Jerky" Transmission

Has anyone else experienced a "jerky" transmission on the IS? I have a 2001 IS300 automatic. It has 62K miles. I bought it new and haven't really beat on the car, just normal driving. Every now and then, it feels like the transmission jerks - it seems like it shifts too late, causing the car to lurch forward a bit. This only happens every now and then and at low speeds. Any ideas?

yea, my 01 does that and always has ... we know the previous owner and she said it did that before ... lexus has seen it and looked for issues ... we call it a quirk

if some1 ever figures out a real fix [other than ultra smooth excelleration] do post!

My 01 IS300 does that too. It isnt too bad, but i've noticed it does it more often when u lightly step on the gas and then let go for a bit and then back on it at low speeds. it doesnt always do it but sometimes it does. just try to keep ur foot on the gas and slowly speed up without letting off.

Default thanks!

i'm glad that i'm not the only that notices this... at first i thought it was the traction control picking up. but then i noticed i was on paved, smooth pavement.

it does only happen at low speeds every now and then. i thought i might have been stepping on the gas too hard or something. i don't feel so bad. quirk? i guess it is what it is.

Yeah, mine does that also. I have the SRT intake with race ECU and thought that might have been causing it, but upon further review, not....just the car doing strange things. Sometimes it feels like the tranny is slipping or something....Will have to ask Lexus about it next time I'm there.

If there was problem harsh shift between 2-3 during acceleration with light throttle input. It may happen with the ECU Program problem but
I think you can go back to lexus dealer to have that fix. There were TSB(Technical service bulletin EG005-02) for this problem(on 2001 IS300 and GS300). You can fix it under federal emissions warranty - 96 months or 80,000 miles which ever come first.
Hope it can help you out
