In my owners book it tells me to change the oil every 7500 miles. I recently changed my oil at my local lexus dealership and they charged me about 80 dollars for regular oil and told me to come back after 4000 miles. I was thinking about taking it back after 5000 miles but my service light came on after 4300 miles. You guys think its safe if I ride out to 5000 miles?

What kind of oil are they using, Synthetic or non Synthetic?

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic and I can push it to 8000+ miles on normal driving. You just have to change your oil filter every 4000-5000 miles.

Maybe thats why the Stealership wants you back by 4000 miles.

5000 miles on today's conventional oil is more than fine. You can definately run a 5000 miles oil change interval for the life of this engine. If you want you can go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and read up on many used oil analysis(UOA's) that go 5k miles and do great.

IS3, you dont have to necessarily change the oil filter every 4-5k miles. I have done 10k miles on a fram filter then cut it open and the filter wasnt breached at all. We all know that the orange can fram is the worst quality build filter there is out there and if that could withstand a 10k OCI then most other filters will too. I have done it with toyota filters too and they are built very well too.

On the 2JZGE, I use to run Mobil 1 5w30 Extended Life 15k and still changed it at 6k. The car ran like a top at 90k when i traded it in. You will be fine running regular synthetic till 6 as well. I drove a lot in rush hour also.
