Default 02 White SportCross

Always wanted one of these. A local one popped up. 93K miles. White color, original owner. Dealer wants 9500$.

Has navigation.

What do you guys think of the price? Also is it a interference/non interference motor?

Anything specific to look for? I love the inline 6 of my SC. Though I enjoy the V8 of my LS400, I really want the smoothness of the inline 6.

Do the seats fold flat, for a flat load floor?
Is the navigation pretty decent after all these years?
Do you know if there is a roofrack made for this car? I kayak and need a car to carry that. (Thule didn't have one on their website).

Some help appreciated, on what to look for. Also what real world MPG are you guys getting?

That is a rare find with Navi. See what you can talk the dealer down to. I say go for it.

Thanks for the heads up. It is at a pretty rural dealership. Hopefully I will have some luck with negotiations.

Just talked to the owner. Timing belt/water pump (major 90k ) service was not done. THat is a big deal.

Is it an interference motors? I spent about 1600 doing everything on my LS400 (90k service) OEM.

What can I expect to pay the full service using OEM parts on the IS? I want to be able to deduct this from the price of the car.

thats a great deal, for the 90K service if u can do it yourself which i know u did it on your LS, parts will cost around 600 bucks...if dealer was to do it, then upwards of 1200.

make sure the owner did a tranny flush and rad flush also, and check the serpentine belt and plugs also, other than that you should be good to go

Another LS

Can you comment on the interference motor or not?

The dealer says this are the things needed to be done for 90k. I just wanted to check with them:

The cost for the Timing belt and water pump is $1,125.00.
The 90,000 Miles service is also recommended and cost $627.73.
This includes the following:

32 Point inspection
Replace the radiator Cap
Replace engine air filter
Flush radiator and coolant system
Replace Brake fluid
Oil and filter change
Re-Tourque Axle flange bolts
Road Test
Service rear differential
Insert front wiper blade refills

Also according to my research can you compare the LS400 1995 model and the Sport Cross? Both seem to be around 3500lb. Are both similar speed 0-60 time and such? Just curious.

I will drive it this Sat and see how much I can pick it up for.

well the the 3 timing belts that ive done for friends at around 93K it showed tears on the edges of the belt...so that had to be changed, serpentime had fine cracks...

man are those prices you got quoted from the dealer????
water pumps from l-tunedparts Carson Lexus is 172.98 and the timing belt and serpentine belt are 26.00 and 23.00

if you can do it yourself go to this site for parts
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=214915

the weight difference between the 2 cars is like 200lbs, but the sportx compared to my LS before had better throttle response, but the torque on the LS was just great i loved it, but with the LS of course its a more luxurious ride...but im glad i switched over since i like more of a sporty ride, the plus for me also is there are more aftermarket goodies for the IS compared to the LS, and for me maintenance is easier and cheaper on a 2jz motor

also most of us sportx owners are on my.is and here is the link to the forum
http://my.is/forums/f102/
im diegolex on there

Thanks bro. I am debating on getting rid of the LS for the IS-X. Thinking about it. Will drive it this Sat and see how it is. Its got the leather package and the navi is nice. My LS has coilovers and 19s. So would be trading my LS plus about 1K more.

Timing belt alone should be $550 installed. I would have the dealer do this. Toyota can do this as well. They are a pain. Also, water pump should be done at the same time. I dumped my 1gen at 87k before this needed to be done as I needed suspension. I would still buy the car, but use this as negotiating power. the 2JZGE is an excellent motor. Plugs require some effort as you have to remove the whole intake manifold. If you lived close to Chicago, I would work on this with you. I enjoyed working on my 1gen. As for Differential, Tranny, etc, it is all very easy to do. Make sure to only use Toyota T-IV fluid. Also, Toyota radiator fluid has an integrated water pump lubricant in the pinkish red solution. You can use the silicate/phosphate universal Prestone, but just add some $2 water pump lube to it as well.

Brian

Thanks for the information. I am actually very close to Chicago now, and so is this car. If you are willing to help, I might just buy it this sat.

You recommend having the Toyota dealer do the timing belt/water pump? Do they work on inline-6 cars these days, now that the Supra is long gone?

Basically the Supra and naturally aspirated I300 have the same block. The Supra is the 2JZGTE for the turbo platform and offers some minor piston and shaft upgrades to benefit the turbo. This engine will last forever and I love it. It was discontinued only because it was expensive to produce and not as efficient as the new V6's.

Post some pics even if you decide against it. Their was a member last year that had some pics of his Sportcross dropped with nice wheels and tint and it changed the look of the whole car.
