Default Chrome vs. Alloys

More of a technical question here. My thoughts are that chrome wheels could wear out suspension components faster than alloys with the added weight. I have the stock chrome wheels on my 02 IS300 with only 53K miles driven like a grandma for nearly 8 years and it needs the front struts replaced. Makes sense to me: more weight bouncing up and down on the struts when going over bumps, more stress on suspension bushings during hard cornering. Could be mistaken but once again your experienced opinions would be greatly appreciated.
