I can't believe it, today on Channel 7 KABC (Calif.), the Safety and transportation institute released a rport of vehicles with poor bumpers.............you guessed it our car was on top of the charts. This sucks, we pay all this cashola and we have poor bumpers, time to call Lexus? What do you think?

 

Yeah the bumpers have had a poor rating since the release of the vehicle.

 

Two thoughts:

First, that's what insurance is for.

Second, 5 mph into a fixed barrier is a lot faster than it seems. The one time I backed into something in a parking lot (not in my IS), I was moving at a crawl. Maybe 1 to 2 mph. It scratched up the plastic bumper, no more. And running into a fixed barrier at 5 mph generates the same forces as hitting another car at almost double that speed.

Would I like stronger bumpers? Yeah. Do I want the bumpers to be twice the size to do it? Probably not.
