Default noob to audio upgrades need help!

First off im also new to the site, just installed a kenwood single din head unit, and the guys at the shop bypassed my stock amp, so now my speakers sound ****ty! i do have 2 12s that i want to hook up would i need a separate amp for the door speakers and the 6x9s? also did i need a special harness besides the metra? thanx for any inputs.

yup ur going to need an amp bypass and it will sound ****ty. The speakers will sound like **** if u bypass the amp. Ur best option is to go for aftermarket speakers, 6.5" for the front and 6x9 for the back. Id also suggest you'd amp them. As for subs, You can fit 2 x 12's back there but its going to be tight. I got a single 12 Alpine Type R and thats massive...

You just need a regular harness. Dont need anything special. Get a nice dash kit. I got my double din one from Best Kits, but Scosche and Metra make them as well.

Here's my setup.

Ut trunk is going to rattle like crazy with 12's.

Most 6x9's will take approx 100W RMS and ur deck is prob only pushing out 15-18W RMS so technically, ur using less than 20% of their potential but you wont us them up to 100%. Grab a Pioneer Gm-9500F. Its a great amp for speakers, has good specs on it and can push good power. Its also smaller than my amps. THere's my 2 cents

Now the problem with the sub in the is 300 is the fact that there's a little hump in the back on the floor. That is part of the Fuel Tank and its up there to make clearance for the drive shaft since its rwd, u can't do much about that. Since u have kids, id suggest getting a sub in a box that way you can remove it. The back seats are not fodable so if u want a good bump, grab a decent sub, 12inch and throw it in a box which u can remove if u need the extra space.

That's what mine looks like and i can't push it any further back. Another option is to get a really nice 10 inch sub, spend a bit more money on it and put it in a sealed box and thrown it on the side. There should be enough room there.

Get a nice 4 channel amp since the IS is limited on space and run a fronr stage off the top 2 channels and a pair of subs on the bottom channels. Check out the new Zed Leviathan in fact (6 channel).

I would still use the stock amp to run you stock 6X9's, and I say stock because you should replace your door speakers with a set of components and consider the rears acoustic fill. Either way if you want a sub you will need a bi-amp set-up, depending on what you run.

If you are set on replacing your 6X9's I would do something like this:

You will also need a few hundred in dynamat or you will rattle the wheels right off the car. Also Fig was making a set of hydrolic trunk supports for the IS300. I would start with this if you plan to make an impressive trunk layout.

Sky's the limit, go big! I have a set of Focal Utopia Components and a focal 4 channel amp I'd sell ya if you are looking. Depending how into this car you plan on getting.

thats a really nice box you have there. are those 6.5" cutouts? and yeah i have some alpine type s 6x9 and a type r in the truck and if i turn it up too loud my trunk rattles. so dynamat is a good way to go
