Default Timing belt kit....

I was doing a search for IS300 looking for some random **** to buy for my car, yeah that's what I do when I get bored.....

Anyways I stumbled on this..............
"Timing Belt Kit Lexus IS300 2001 to 2005"
http://www.amazon.com/Timing-Belt-Le...159433&sr=1-39

Is this legit? Is this everything needed, only $300??
I don't know, that sounds super cheap..... (too good to be true)
I heard it costs upwards of $1200 to get timing belt changed at dealership......

Doesn't look bad at all but for $100 I think I'd go for OEM parts.

pretty good, but I heard you should change your water pump and tensioner at the same time you change your timing belt changed.

true but not nessecarily because they have the same lifespan but because you have to remove the timing belt to do it so its a thing like why pay labor to do the timing belt minus cost of the timing belt itself 2 or 3 times

Please dont go over to the dark side ....

That Amazon kit appears to have everything as far as i can see, including the hydraulic cylinder.

I don't know if its less if you get it from somewhere like rock auto. would be interesting to compare.

Yeah my experience with Amazon is shakey, I wish I could find out who the dealer is that is offering this kit...

Hi all... its been for months that I did not catch up on clublexus and it seems too late to send this mess. but I'll send it anyway. I think you'd better not buy it.. with 300$ you can get all parts from dealer including three seals, timing belt, driving belt, coolant water except for the water pump. We dont need a OEM water pump, its just waste money. You can get a whole unit from O'reilly for just 120USD. So total for everthing inlcluding labor is just about 350USD. The important thing is you have to buy parts from Toyota dealer and tell the consultors that you need them for Toyota Supra 1993 none turbo. Remember, Supra used as same engine as IS does now. If you go to dealer lexus, it will cost you more than 400USD... So be careful and hope you get your timing belt fastly.

you can do the water pump at the same time as the timing belt but it isnt required because the water pump isnt driven by the timing belt. but if you dont want to risk the water pump going out after you do timing belt and pay more labor go ahead and do it. i am a mechanic and do all of my own work so when i do my timing belt in the next few weeks i am not replacing the water pump, but thats just me because if it goes out i will replace it myself.

I heard that if the water pump goes out, will have to replace whole engine?

??

Who told you that?

If the water pump goes out, and over the years I have had them go out, they typically leak !!
So you get a nice green or red puddle on the floor, your coolant reservoir goes down, you top it up !!!
then you replace the pump !!
(If you don't the bearings might go out and make a noise or seize, never seen that myself tho.....)

Now of course if you don't ever check your coolant, and never check the ground where you park, run the car with the needle off the temp scale, then I guess you could lose the motor.

But there is no guarantee every water pump will last the 90 K either !!!
