Hey rory, my bad. I did try it. It didnt work. The starting position is vertical. I tried the horizontal and and back to vertical didn't work. I tried pulling the lever in both situation, still did not work. So I believe it's the wire came off the lever because it feels very loose and no force to it.

fair enough, wouldn't want you do have to dismantle the boot release without trying that first
