Default 02 IS 300 Power Steering Pump / Pulley ??

Hi Guys

I just noticed my car seems to be making a noise from the Power steering pump Pully.

It sounds like the bearing in the Pulley is going bad and seems like the pulley may be wobbling a little too.

Does the entire Power steering pump need to be replaced or can just the Pulley and bearing be replaced??

If the entire part needs to be replaced, How hard is it? Can it be done in my garage with no special tools?

Thanks

I'll look at the car tomorrow and let u know how hard it is but if it's like a loud hum everytime u turn the wheel u need to make sure there is not air in the system first and see if there is a leak. If not the whole pump will haw to be replaced and I will update u on the difficulty and what you need

Hi thanks,

it doesnt make noise when i turn the wheel or anything

Its seems like the bearing in the pulley wheel that comes directly off the pump is making noise when the car idles..... and it seems like the pulley wheel is wobbling a little also....maybe from the bearing failing.

You will have to replace the whole power steering pump assembly. I will look on my car tomorrow to see how difficult it is, but I don't think it is too awful difficult to replace.

U can replace just the pulpy napa sells a pully kit for it but you have to determine if it's the bearing or the actual pump and the pump is a little difficult not terrible but probably a couple hours

Is the Bearing for the pulley pressed into the pump?? How would I remove the Bearing?

I couldn't find the pulley kit on napa's website?

I had a similar problem with my 2002 IS300. Noise from the power steering pump when the steering wheel was left alone.. but it went away as soon as I turned the wheel. I flushed the system and still had the same noise. I was preparing to take the pump off and replace it. The first thing I did was take the the bolt out holding the pulley on on the front of the pump (The pulley that the serpentine belt drives) I noticed the bolt was just slight tighter than finger tight. On a hunch I tightened the bolt and fired up the car. Problem solved!!!! Imagine my relief. I hope your problem is as easy to fix as mine. Good luck!!!

So did you ever figure out the issue? What did you need to replace?

I have a similar problem and it does sound like a bad bearing. My power steering pulley is also very wobbly compared to the others. Steering has no effect on the noise though.
