It really depends on what you want to do to it. If you are thinking turbo later on down the road then swapping the auto for a stronger manual is an option. If you just want to keep it stock but with a manual, it will be a lot easier to sell it and find a nice 5 speed. Welcome to the site.

Wow are people drunk. This thread made me feel intoxicated reading it.
Anyway, I'l also appreciate if someone could throw an up to date estimate on the price to convert an auto to manual. I've found lots of info on this but it's all a few years old and they are talking about transmissions costing $2k... I just picked up a r154 for right around $700, so I know something's changed
Merry Christmas all.

I was once quoted $2500.
All I would have to do is drop the car off then pick it up in 3 days.
If you piece it all together for cheap the parts can be acquired for are around $1500.
I actually saw someone selling all the parts needed for about that price (minus the gauge cluster, steering wheel and the computer)
- transmission (depends on which one you get) (can probably get one for around $500)
- rear differential (around $500-600)
- drive shaft
- cpu
- clutch
- clutch master cylinder
- shifter
- gauge cluster
- steering wheel
- lots of other stuff
