This is a spy pic of the IS430 being tested in the Nurnbergring in Germany. This is not the same car as in the pics above, look at the steering wheel.

Hey Bimmer are you stupid? The IS300 with minimal mods such as mine are right up there with 330's. A 325 is no contest.

Default not trying to start a flame war...

I am going to say this: the 330 Ci is an incredible vehicle. The IS300 is really not in the same league STOCK. However, a well-tuned IS300 can easily keep up with a 330 Ci; but, a moderately tune 330 Ci will still have a pretty good edge over the IS300.

I am a Lexus and BMW owner. I have the OBD-I M3 and it dynoed at 225.7 RWHP stock from a 240 BHP rating. After my modifications and power enhancements (N/A ones), it dynoed around 293.7 RWHP. Then, I added a dinan s/c kit = more good power. I have an SC400 as well - it's a great vehicle. I've owned a 1998 GS400, and 1995 GS300. Both great cars; but, not really comparable to the 540is six-spd. The bimmers are SO much easier to tune. Place a JC chip, intake, and the 540is six-spd will WALK ALL OVER the GS400.

I actually SWITCHED from Lexus to BMW for performance only because I did not feel that there was a worthy competitor for the BMW M3. The new M3 2002 is a good car; but, with the CLK 32 AMG, SL 55 AMG which will hand the 2002 M5 it's *** - the M3 is no longer king if it ever was. I mean, the Acura CL-S six-spd can run low 14's consistently. I believe the 2002 M3 runs consistent mid 13's.

That would be GREAT if Lexus came out with a car to compete with the M3. But, right now, I don't see that happening. BMW is running a 6-cylinder, I would like to see Lexus come out with a six-cylinder 333 HP+ engine. They should be able to do it. With a V8, seriously, we should be talking M5 territory then (394 BHP).

The IS300 needs more torque and power. I don't see the answer being going to an 8 cylinder engine - they need to come out with a well-tuned 6 cylinder engine. I mean, what the hell, how can Acura get a 4-banger to 200 HP, while Lexus only gets 225 from a six-banger. The IS300 has a good weight ratio, but, a little more tuning on aerodynamics and cornering needs to occur.

I also think a mid-13's car with mid 5 0-60 should be attainable. I mean to me, in my honest opinion, its sad that Lexus came out with the IS300 but the 1/4 time and 0-60 time were still at the levels of the 325is. I mean, I think you would get MANY bimmer owners to drive Lexus's, IF, the vehicle was at LEAST comparable to an Mcoupe, Mroadster, M3, M3 cab.

I would definitely be interested. I think if Lexus can develop a vehicle around mid-40's that can run 13.5's consistently and 0-60 times of around 4.9-5.3 - I would definitely switch back. I mean, people always argue, you can TURBO/S/C the Lexus...TRUE.... but why the hell would I not just turbo an M3? I've added approximately 70 some HP to the WHEELS without F/I. I doubt Lexus tuners can claim that ... PLUS if you add AA's stage II turbo kit, on a STOCK M3, its 498 HP, 462 ft*lbs of torque, and the power band is incredible, around 3000 RPM's (90% power) to approximately 7600 RPM's...I mean, those are orgasmic type of numbers...

Turboing the IS300 would nowhere near come to this numbers, you wouldhave to push 2 BARS of boost at LEAST to approach that number, one bar would maybe put you at 360 HP....this is only my opinion...but, if Lexus would seriously tune their vehicles... they could start competing and drawing customers away from bimmers.

I mean, if most of you have ridden in an M3, you have to give that car it's due...in 1995, when it came out....the M3 was ahead of its time...even thought it was a detuned euro version... I think that is what Lexus needs to do....raise the bar...NOT just meet it, but SET IT....I mean, how many years do we have to wait for the damn MKV to come out?

Default just an afterthought...

I AM a big LEXUS fan. I do not want you to think I am "bashing" Lexus. I am being critical of them, because, I don't think they are really listening to their customers. BMW has customers that want a quiet ride, smooth, luxurious, that's the 330 ci series. Those that want more aggressive - M-series. I mean, why doesn't Lexus come out with an L-Series. Two-tone modena interior would be nice....

I mean, look at BMW's forthcoming Z4. If they offer that as a M- version...man, sweet-looking car.

Hello here,

Maybe I've missed it above, but if I'm right there are no specs known here according the IS430.

Well, this is what I know:

It has the 4,3 V8 which we know of the LS & GS, upgraded with a Compressor.

Specs:
- 297 kw/404 hp
- 600 Nm/3500 rpm
- Topspeed 305 km/h (191 miles/h)
- 0-60 in about 4,5 sec

If my writing isn't good all the time, please forgive, I'm just a person from Holland

I've actually tinkered with the idea of doing a IS550.

I don't really think it will do good for the car. The specs are very good already, when Lexus should decide to fit a 5,5 V8, they first have to create one. This was a lot easier, because they had the engine and also the compressor.

On the other hand they probable wouldn't need a compressor.

But I do hope the IS430 is going to be available

Ethan, I like the way your thinking. That would be an awesome ride. Come to think of it, the 4.3 with a 5.5 stroker will be lighter than the 2JZ-GE. I know the 4.3 is roughly the same weight as the IS200 engine.
Add the TTE SC and you will be flying low.
