Header Reviews
Hey guys
So I'm looking at getting headers. I have googled and read several reviews but I can find specifics.
I want to know about OBX. Want are the pros and cons of running these. What are the gains in hp/tq? I have read that these decrease tq? Anyone know if this is true?
Also im considering getting the y pipe too and doing a 2.5in b pipe to a vibrant muffler. Lmk what you guys think, or at least point me in the right direction for some info.
Thanks

More for sound imo. You do feel a difference at highway speeds. Does breath a bit more and the throttle response is quicker from like 50mph and above.....well for my set-up that is. I have AlphaWerks headers and ypipe....headers heat wrapped and both are powdercoated black and ceramic coated. This was done by previous owner, helps tone down exhaust note and imo sounds a lot cleaner.
Mazzuri header+y will give you the most gains but very hard to come by. All long runner headers do produced a slight loss in low end torque/power...short runner header, like the OBX one will gain you more low end torque. Like dsouthmia^ stated above....they have a lot of fitment issues though.
For the most part though...all long runner headers are pretty much the same except for Mazzuri. Quality wise though....keep a look out for toyomoto, alphawerks, TBKO, and pro-1. They pop up for sale from time to time.

^^^wow a lot of reading but that really helped. Especially that last thread. Ok, so can someone point me in the direction of a short runner? Will i loose top end power compared to stock or will it remain the same with a short runner?

I don't know much about OBX but all I read online about it , is the fitment issue. Thats why I went with Mazzuri v2 Headers + Y-pipe. The mazzuri gave it a nice deep tone sound but that's cause I have a Hks Hi-power exhaust too. But hp wise, you lose a little on the bottom end but when you open it up, you feel more power and it sounds really nice.

Install is a pita.....takes a lot of time and patience. If you haven't done your 90k then you might as well do it when you install cams...because everything has to be removed..timing belt, ect.
Aftermarket Exhaust cam gear is highly recommended and new cam seals and valve gaskets. Its a solid weekend project. If you know someone that could do this for a good price then do it. It really is best bang for your buck. Any other option for added HP is boost and that will cost you an arm and a leg.
