My 1,000hp IS300; From Start till Now
if any of you frequent My.IS, you'll probably recognize the screen-name and the car. Since I post in the LS400 section here now, I figured I would share the other Lexus that shares garage space with my LS. This will be a brief synopsis of the car rather than a build thread. The new build hasn't been documented and rather than create a thread showing all of the work, I will just post pictures when I decide to reveal the car again.
I have owned the car since 2006. It is an 03 model that I am the second owner of and purchased it bone-stock from the dealership. I didn't have many plans for the car originally, but we all know how fast that changes. Over the next five years, I built what I would call one of my "dream" builds. At first, I wanted to build up a MKIV Supra, but I quickly grew to love my IS300 more than the Supra. From 2006-2007 the car was turbo'd with a baby Garrett 60-1 T4 turbo on the stock GE motor and Greddy E-manage. The winter of 2007/2008 is where the build really started. Here is the "old" setup:
Motor: 2JZ-GE
-block bored, honed, and hot-tanked
-machined and balanced crank
-Wiseco 9.5:1 pistons
-Eagle HD rods
-ARP main bolts and rod bolts
-ARP head-studs
-port and polished GE head
-BC Racing springs and retainers
-BC Racing valves
-BC Racing 272 VVT-i cams
-GTE head-gasked
-tubular stainless-steel exhaust manifold; divided t4 flange
-Greddy T88H-38gk turbo
-Greddy 3-row intercooler
-Tial 50mm blow-off valve
-Tial 44mm waste-gate w/16psi base-spring
-4" down-pipe to 4" exhaust w/Burns Stainless race muffler
-SC300 non-DBW throttle body
-custom fuel rail
-twin Walbro 255lph fuel pumps
-Full Blown Motorsports twin fuel pump hanger
-Fuel Lab fuel filter
-Fuel Lab Fuel-Pressure Regulator
- -10AN feed/-8AN return
-FIC 2100cc fuel injectors
-Haltech Platinum EMS
-Blitz SBC-id3 electronic boost controller
-Defi gauges; boost and fuel pressure
Prior to TH400 swap:
-PFS Race-built Toyota a650e transmission
-B&M transmission cooler
-Amsoil ATF fluid
Post TH400 swap:
-GM TH400 built by Sound Performance
-TH400 to 2JZ adapter plate
-Toyota a340 bellhousing
-3200rpm stall
-trans-brake
-custom drive-shaft
733rwhp @ 26 psi with the a650e and a slipping converter/10.91 @ 137mph dialed back to 650rwhp
931rwhp @ 38psi with the th400

After finally breaking something in the summer of 2010, I decided to completely strip the car down to a shell and rebuild it. I did buy a LS1 and fitted the motor in the car, but in the end, I bought another 2JZ to build. The new motor has been gone through by the guys at Sound Performance in Chicago, IL, who also spec'ed out my new turbo setup.
Motor: 3.2L 2JZ-GE
-3.2L stroker
-fully built GTE head w/+1mm over-sized valves and HKS 272 cams
-SP Racing exhaust and intake manifolds
-Precision GT4202 turbo w/billet wheel, .96a/r exhaust housing
I can't wait to bring the car back out. She's been sitting for far too long, but I'm very patient. I plan to bring it to Houston in March of 2012 for the TX2K Nationals for testing.
