acceleration issue - advice is welcomed
posting for a friend.
Currently has a 2002 is300 e shift.
He has changed the spark plugs and done routine maintenance as well as clean the MAF. when accelerating between 2500-4500 rpm the car will hesitate until it passes the rpms or you shift. he has no CEL and other than that, the car runs great. It is not making any strange sounds or noises. just this issue.
Any ideas of what it could be?
Thanks everyone

I had to replace a few months back my throttle pedal position switch (where the throttle cables connect) on the side of the TB. Mine was hesitating for a while without throwing the CEL then it acted at times like I was hitting a wall.. Until it finally went out it threw the CEL. But the hesitation wasn't consistent either. Maybe something to look into. Have you cleaned the TB lately?

no we havent but it is something to look into. he would get after a while a CEL that is for speed sensor, but he changed it about 2 weeks ago brand new. dont know if you experienced something like that

No. I was driving down the highway with the cruise on when it went out completely. It started slowing down progressively but if I gave it qtr throttle it held at about 40mph and of course the CEL came on. Gave me the code for it then of course I ordered the part and replaced it.
Before it failed it did hesitate but it wasn't all the time. It would do it maybe once or twice a week. Not something that would grab my attention but I did notice it. Once replaced it doesn't ever hesitate anymore.

OP, this sounds like an electrical problem..When he installed the spark plugs, did he properly gap them? Did he buy the correct plug for his setup? One thing I would think it is there is a dead coil pack..you will need to determine which one It is..

I am actually using ngk platinums, I threw them in there and havent noticed anything as long a I use premium fuel, I put the iridiums back in, no difference to me, maybe slight change in idle, but nothing drastic

Thanks guys

Absolutely...there's a saying at least in my part of town...if you can't afford premium for your car, then you shouldn't be driving it...advise him to change soon...otherwise..dire consequences will follow

i can notice a differenece in my engine based on what station i get gas from and i ALWAYS get premium, i know ive put regular gas in our RX a couple years ago when I was broke and I found i got worse gas mileage and the idle was terrible, it sputtered up hills, the whole car shook, i thought it was going to blow up, if your buddy wont listen to you about premium gas then tell him this, spend 50 bucks and run a full tank of premium and see what happens or spend 2000 bucks using trial and error to find a problem that doesnt exist
