Default Traction Control??

Was driving home tonight in my 04 is300 I just got last week and came over a hill to find a large dog laying in the road. I hit the brakes then went right and put two tires in a gravel driveway entrance to avoid it at approx 55-60 miles per hour. So to the point- when I hit the gravel my backend moved a little and the slippery road alert light appeared in the dash along with a warning beep. Was this telling me that the traction control was doing its job or just telling me my tires had lost traction or what? Thanks in advance!

It's saying that traction control engaged. You should be able to turn it off if you wanted...

It controls the applied torque to the rear wheels by limiting the power output to help regain traction.

It is traction control, not vehicle stability control. So while it will try to fix the rear end coming out, it is just detecting that one wheel is spinning faster than the other and will brake. However, it is not an advanced system
