my car just recently started making a noise when i brake, similar to how you described. my mech is saying wheel bearing first so i'm planning to do that soon. i will keep you informed on what else i learn throughout the process.

The wheel bearings are sealed. Double row same as fwd cars.
If noise varies as turn left right left at 20 - 30 mph its a wheel bearing.
If it doesn't do this but noisy on braking check the brakes ?

would calipers somehow make noise when braking? just wondering cause i replaced pads (oem) and shaved my rotors. it was fine. but i replaced the caliper on my left front with a used one. i thought maybe it could be that. well, i'll post up whatever i find out, hopefully can be helpful to luccilou

If you've already replaced the wheel bearings, or you've had them inspected, I would start looking at the brakes. Maybe you have a sticky caliper.

yeah that happened to me, to my surprise replacing the caliper bracket fixed it. however the whewww whewww sound is hard to compare as my sound could have been completely different. Are you sure the sound is coming from where you think? sound likes to travel.

Might b it...
I'm sorry to see that this problem has been so difficult to figure out. If you can, make a short video of the noise. All whewwww wheewww whewwww whewwww wheewww wheewwww whewww makes me think of is Lil' Wayne's song, "Mrs. Officer" LOL.
