Default HELP!! Engine wont turn over...

Hey!

So Ive had my car parked over the weekend, go to start it tonight, it started cranking when suddenly it seemed like the starter began to freewheel and no longer turning the engine . I turned the key back, tried again and nothing. Now I just get like a whirring sound, seems like the starter keeps spinning but its not engaging the flywheel. Anyone run into this problem? Any tips or tricks to get it going??

I think it just may simply be the starter went bad. But Im puzzled by the fact it sounds like its spinning. Maybe internally it gave out?? I even tried banging on the housing, but nothing. The battery is only a few months old and has been starting just fine. All the connections appear to be clean and free of corrosion. Please help, need to commute to work tomorrow morning!!!!!!!

Thanks

Ok. I went back out and gave it a few cranks, and really payed attention. I think its the fuel pump. Can anyone give me info!! Im new to the car and brand. Never owned a Lexus/Toyota until a few months ago. It almost started and then gave up. I stepped on the throttle a few times and it almost wanted to start. So it doesnt seem to be the starter.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Success! It started. I cranked and cranked just ready to fry the starter when it starting bobbing and sounding as if it was choking, I just kept hammering the gas pedal and BAM! It started up, and i kept giving it gas and held it like at 4k for a about a min. Drove it around the block, started it up a few times to confirm its ok.

The only thing i did, which could have been pure coincidence, I shook the car back and forth, to let the fuel slosh back and forth, hoping it would do something magical to the fuel pump. I put the car in gear and moved it forward and backward, hoping it would turn the engine over in case the starter was stuck on the flywheel(not sure if this would even work, I believe the torque converter wouldn't allow for this???).

Anyways, hopes it doesn't happen again.

I would check to see how your battery is, if it's 3-4 years old it's time to replace your battery.

check battery at advanced like DLo said, maybe clean out your throttle body or have it serviced, check all grounds
