Default The 'AUTO' climate control is not.....

Ok, the AUTO function really does not automatically control air temp, for example. I cannot just leave the A/C button activated and expect the system to then cool or heat, and turn OFF the A/C when heating. It just stays on and dries the air, that sucks !

If it was really automatic it would start and stop the A/C regardless of the wether the little LED was illuminated or not. Perhaps have two LED's ? One for manual control and one for FULL automatic....

Actually, the only time the actual A/C compressor will come on is to either cool the car, or, if you are running the heat on any of the defroster settings. This is to dry the incoming air to aid in defrosting the windshield. If your A/C compressor is coming on at any other time, then something is wrong.

sorry...that was a bit confusing, I'll try again

in auto mode you would expect that the system would handle A/C operation, on when hot outside and off when you want heat, or outside temp is below, say 50 degrees...

but with the switches in AUTO mode, in the middle of the hottest day, if you don't push the A/C button down, it will never turn it on.....so it really is not AUTO....

same thing in the winter, leave the A/C switch on and in AUTO, and you'll get heat, but it's still with the air being conditioning, that is run across the evaporator coil and dried......

Much of what your saying is normal operation. You can change when the ac comp goes on and off thru CBES system. For example: Have the ac comp turn on manually only, even when in auto. Fresh/Rec can be manual also. It only changes when you change it. When defrost is selected you dont have to have the ac comp turn on, this can be done manually.

PM me your emails and I can send anyone interested the Cbes list for 2001/2002 IS300, or Sportcross in pdf form.

So don't use the auto setting. I control everything manually on my RX - recent years have witnessed a lot of great advancements in automobile technologies for both features and safety, but it has also unavoidably led to the "dumbing down" of autos by trying to make them more user friendly. There isn't a computer out there that can control the climate in your vehicle in accordance with your own personal "comfort-o-meter." Set your controls manually - you still know what's comfortable for you a lot better than your computer does.
Good luck.
