well they are prob using the auto for testing purposes, the V8 comes with the auto stock so it is easy and quick to throw it into the IS for testing. i am sure they will developed a nice quick 6 speed if they plan to produce it.

I just opened the newest issue of either Sport Compact Car or Superstreet (I forgot which) at the bookstore today and it has photos of a silver IS430 testing on Germany's Nurbergring (sp?). So lets pray TMC gave it the thumbs up and that they're just keeping this ultra hush-hush!

The IS 430 is a working test mule last I heard, and if it were to make it into production, it would be another player in the IS line up. The IS pretty much flopped it's 1st year by not lacking a manual transmission, coupe model, or convertible. Especially since it was aimed at the 3 series BMW which offered all of these, and the 3 series also offers the 333 HP M model. The guys at the regional department wasn't saying much about production possibilites of the IS 430, but this is just something to think about it. In '02 the IS gained the manual transmission, there's supposed to be a coupe version coming sometime in '03. I wouldn't have high hopes for the convertible ...
Since the IS is supposed to be a direct competitor with the 3 series, they have to cover as many bases as possible. Lexus doesn't want a high strung engine in any of their cars in the US, (Like the IS 200 in Europe) the powerful V8 would be the ideal choice. As for putting a manual transmisson behind it ... I don't know. The current 5 speed manual is already a tight fit and quite difficult to remove. I'd hate to have to tangle with the V8 and a 6 speed.

The pic in the SCC mag is of a Supercharged IS300 from TTE testing on the Ring. [/B][/QUOTE]
