Harness Bar Safety?

I was thinking about getting a harness bar for my 02 LEXUS is300, but some of my friends tell me it won't be safe for a sedan. I thought about wrapping a swimming noodle on it. Any thoughts? Has anyone actually put a harness bar for harnesses?
