thanks,
I'm an sc300 guy, but I'm pretty sure the is300 uses the same tranny as the sc300 5-speed. It's a W58. Unfortunately, it appears that the 98 and up GS' were VVT-i with the ECT-i auto tranny. To do the swap, find any W58 in good condition ~$250-$400 (easy to come by), get a VVT-i ecu from an IS300 $(?), and an "open" (easy to come by) ~$250, or "limited slip" (harder to come by) ~$400+ differential. The hard part would be a driveshaft. If old GS' had 5-speeds, find a used one ~$300.

You'll also have to get a master/slave clutch cylinder, hydraulic lines and clutch pedal ~$300(?). Plus, the tranny cross member to bolt the tranny in place ~$150.

The last piece is the center console. It would have to be dressed up to make it look nice $(?)

Unless have have time and $$$ to spend, I wouldn't suggest it.

Hope that helps.
