Is the Navigation Center Console Control System Absolutely Required?
My 2004 IS was not equipped with navigation, but I am thinking of buying the OEM housing to install my own aftermarket GPS or tablet device. My question is this: do I also need to buy the center console control system (located by the cup-holder) for the GPS housing to open and function properly? Can the lid open and tilt simply by pressing the buttons on the actual housing?
Also, and I know this is not the classified section, but does anyone know of a good dealership or OEM distributor that sells these for cheap? I see these on ebay for between $300 - $500, and I think that is a little steep, especially since I am only interested in the plastic housing and not any of the electrical components. I've been looking into myLparts.com, but have not seen any reviews for this company.
Thanks

you only need the center GPS display screen (and housing) not the cup holder controller. You won't be using the display screen so you won't need it.
I believe the part number you are looking for is 86111-53030 this is OEM lexus part number for the ENTIRE set up. (at least when I ordered mine from a junkyard they said it was the replacement for that number..they sent me the entire center dash piece).
On the back of the housing there's a "computer" that directs power throughout the display. I don't have a pin out for it yet, but I haven't been searching too much right now either. Maybe if you find it you can send me a copy??
This is the only piece you'll need.

if you can find one for $300 I'd say go for it. I paid right at $240-250 for mine.
