The real development mule is a Black IS. This is the car that has recently appeared on several sites. This car has a NA 430 engine running 300 horsepower.
To my knowledge these are the only 2 in exictense.
It is very expensive for TTE to produce these cars since Toyota will not sell them an IS shell and a 430 engine. They have to buy a normal IS200, rip the engine out, buy a normal LS430, rip that engine out and swap it around.
The cost of the black car for TTE is more than 100k USD.
The car at the Ring. My friend who is at TTE a lot told me it was a development car for the TTE IS300 compressor.
The strange thing about it is that the car has Belguim plates and TTE is in Germany. Lexus europe is based in Brussels Belgium. Maybe there is something more about this car but I have not heard it.

TMC did not want to make it too easy for TTE to produce this car. I do know that they gave them a special price for the LS430 but only if they sent the crushed shell back to Japan.
I'm not sure about the IS300 TTE exterior too. Maybe they are testing some other stuff for Toyota/Lexus in the process. Otherwise I cannot explain the steering wheel on the wrong side and the belgium plates when we all know that TTE is located in Koln Germany.

Lexus Test Driver
ok, after reading this whole thing, now I will give my opinion... ITS A SUPRA!!! hehe
why do I think this? lexus/toyota is always very secretive about their new coming models, look at the new rx, we didnt have any pics of spy cars, info or stuff like that til a month or so from their official launch, the rumors were around but nothing solid...meanwhile this IS430 thingy has been going around for a while now..
Another thing, a lot of the magazine rumors are based on the TTE project car... now my question is.. how would be the best way to have a secret test bed for a new coming car?? make it look like a different existing car!!! if you read most of the articles about the upcoming supra, most of them agree that it will be based on the IS platform, and that will be offered with the new V6's engines and the upscale model with a V8 so... that would explain why they have prototypes here...maybe they will realize that it would work just as well on the IS and make it into production, but in the way lexus is going right now, I dunno
thats just my guess on this mess..

The IS300 uses the Supra chassis and the NA Supra Inline-6. Why doesn't Lexus just add the Twin Turbos to this engine, it is tried and true and enormously powerful? It will make the bean counters at Toyota happy since it will save them a lot of R&D costs and it will make the enthusiasts happy as well.

Autoworld.com
"The new GS is built on a completely new Lexus platform. Only the battery type, basic front suspension components and the six-cylinder engine's crankshaft assembly are carried over from the previous generation."
I still think it's possible(but not probable) that Lexus did base the platform of the GS on a modified version of the JZA80, but didn't market that info because they thought it might hurt sales for their target market. Any Lexus Techs have any definite info?

The GS may be based on a completely new Lexus platform but the IS is based on the Supra platform. The I_6 of the NA Supra is also the engine that the IS engine is based on. The GS and the IS do not share the same platform.
