GTE or Fully Build GE
Ok so that is this question.I've done alot of reading while im debating the way to go.So basically im looking to get to 550 to 600 hp the right way.No check engine lights.Im currently saving up.at first I was thinking about a e550 coupe for looks but at that price I thought the is300 will oit preform and out last any new car out if done right.I no this has been covered but I never heard any about it done right without and check engine lights.and this amount of power.

Just from what I've researched, I believe the better route would be to swap a GTE. Rebuilding your GE with forged internals will cost you just as much, maybe more than the price of a low mileage GTE. I've seen GTE w/ vvti's for $1700 locally in socal. You also get some extras with the GTE like the FFIM, oil squirters, cool valve covers and the solid internals built with Toyota's tolerances and build quality.
What I want to do is swap a GTE, ditch the twins for a small single and keep the stock IS300 ecu with a MS3Pro so I'd still have all the peripherals like a/c, cruise, stock gauges, etc.

If you have the time and the money to do it right then do it right. Get the GTE. It was born to do what you want it to do.
I always find the choices that people give themselves to be very curious. I was looking at an E550, but I decided to fully build out a 10-15 year old small japanese near luxury sedan. The transition makes perfect sense.

If you are willing to do the work, you can save yourself a little money with the ge motor. The only weak points of JZ motors as a whole are the rods. GE or GTE, 99% of failures due to high horsepower on JZs are the rods. Put a thick metal head gasket, get some fresh rods, and put fresh rings gapped for boost and you will have a stout set up with a much better head and vvti. But here is why you go GTE and not GE. Stock 5 speeds in these cars are stressed at stock GTE power. You go for a GTE conversion not for the motor strength because the only difference in the motors are the rods and compression, you do it to possibly get our hands on a V160 or at least an R154.
