Dealer or independent shop?
Hi Guys,
I have recently bought a 2002 IS300 with 260,000 Km's. Car is running great. Had some maintenance work done at a local Lexus / Toyota Specialist. Notice the price difference isn’t a lot compared to the dealer (as I can discounts on parts from the dealer that I deal with).
Is it worth it taking a 1st Gen IS back to a Lexus dealer for work? As I have heard that dealers don’t often work on old cars, thus newer tech’s are not trained, and that they may also no longer have the tools / manuals needed to do the work on an older vehicle. Would this be the case?

If the cost is comparable I would take it to the dealer. It is their product and they will absolutely stand behind the work being done.
If you are worried about the techs not having experience with that specific car, ask your service advisor who is the head tech or who has a few decades of experience under their belt and make sure that your servicing is taken care of by them.

Thanks DrDDay. I did end up going to the local dealer for an alinement special they had. They found that my front rotors were warped (which I asked the independ shop to Check and he said the car was in perfect condition).
The service advisor said I had lots of time and to come back when it start to bother. I was surprised they didn't up sell me on anything. I asked about if they service older vehicles, the reply I got was. Lexus last and that they do service them at the store and that is not a problem.
