Hi guys.

(One Lap of America post race photos and stories.)

Mark and I are back safe and sound from our 2003 Tornado lap of America. The Twin Turbo VVTi Lexus IS300 I constructed worked perfectly.

Mark and I drove the IS300TT 15,000 km’s in two weeks, around 1000 km’s per day.
We had a fantastic time over the entire two week trip, broken up into three main legs;

1- Driving down to New York for the race start
2- One Lap of America race track events and transit sections
3- Driving back home to Calgary

Over all of these kms we did not have any accidents, speeding tickets or road side problems other than the weather conditions that were very wet the entire time. One benefit to the winds and rain was that the deer were in the forest and not around jumping up on the interstates. Our Lexus Twin Turbo also is very comfortable on the road and very good on fuel averaging around 28 mpg at interstates speeds up to 15 km’s over the posted limits, amazing for a sedan with more than 450 hp.

The race was very challenging this year, as some of you may know the weather conditions were very bad. Cold, rain and tornados were prevalent all week. Our final placement was 8th in Sedan class out of 18 cars and 25 overall out of 84 cars, as you will see below in the standings, running a car with four wheel drive was a wise idea for this years race.

Tony Swan from Car and Driver magazine was running the One Lap again this year and after the race he told us that we were chosen for a side bar article in the One Lap article coming out in the August 2003 issue of Car and Driver. Tony drove the IS and interviewed us for the article after the awards banquet.
