Looking for a air intake but I came across the hps air intake is it a good start

were you looking at the soft silicon hose or the metal short ram?

according to these guys, intakes have a very small increase in performance on the IS engines.

I have the HPS silicone hose/tube. It's basically the DaveH intake but made of silicone. Personally I think it's a better option over the DaveH since it's made of silicone and that material doesn't absorb & conduct heat like metal does.

back when i had an 04 is300, i did lots or research. I choose the Srt intake with the ecu. Never had any problems with it and really enjoyed the sound it produced.
