Default IS300 Burning oil

So... I have a 2003 IS300. Long story short, Burned 7 qts oil in 1500 mile road trip. Seemed to burn the most during the Hilly areas from SLC to Vegas. Not as much from Vegas to LA. Then on the way back, again most oil was burned from Vegas to SLC.

Any help / suggestions would be great!

first off, welcome. 7 qts is quite a bit of oil and you are very brave driving it that far from SLC to Vegas. I definitely wouldn't recommend and get the car check out immediately.

However, it does sound like you have been carrying some extra quarts of oil with you and topping off the oil on your road trip. How did you calculate that your IS needed 7 qts? Did you pull over and top off every time the oil level light came on? Do you see any traces of oil leaking from the engine?

so... first of all, didn't do it out of bravery Just didn't know it would burn so much since the usual around town driving I do, burns less than a quart between oil changes...

I had an oil change done before the trip, and the light came on just outside of Vegas, so we stopped and checked it... Took 4 quarts (had to buy) I did buy extra and keep a close eye on it at every stop... Funny thing is, from vegas to LA, and back to vegas, she stayed full... only had to top off as I climbed the mountains through Utah... by the time I got home, I had put in all 7 quarts....

7qts of oil means either fat *** leakage somewhere or your oil rings are destroyed. I would definitely get it checked out unless you dont mind throwing away money for oil.

unless you have massive of oil on your driveway or on the underside of your car, you're likely just burning it. i'm sure its just oil control ring problems. need a rebuild.
