where are the ISs at the autocrosses and track days
I was just curious after been to the many trackdays and autocrosses in the Oregon region, I only seen 1 or 2 IS turn up. Does people buy them to be a cruiser or dragster...???
Last year, I didn't see a single IS at the autocrosses and this year I only seen 1 IS turn up for 2 events. As as far as the track days go I only seen like 1 who was novice!!!!!

there's a few here in the south and a bunch in the northeast and california. I know of somebody who ran up in Oregon but I'm not sure where anymore since it's been a while since he posted.
Except for corvettes there really aren't many $30k+ cars at autocrosses, so I'd say the IS is doing better than average for that price segment.

I definately like to try to try track my IS whenever I have time. We are exploring of renting out the California Speedway interior course. Since I have never been to an official track day, I presume we would only allow 20 people to sign up to give everyone a lot of room to do what you want on the course. To rent California Speedway's track costs around $10,000 (last quoted July 2002). So for 20 people, it would cost $500/person. If anyone is serious, let me know so we can get it going. If anyone wants to be more selective, we can only invite 10 people at $1,000/person. I'm sure there are other "hidden" costs that I am not aware of.
Does anyone know if it is better to buy a used stock miata to track vs. trying to track a turbo IS 300?
Thanks,
Ethan

look at it this way, the more people the better. I put about 25 laps on our road course and nearly killed my new tires, so it;s not like you are going to be racing continuosly. $500 is a lot of money for just 1 day of racing. We were running about 5 cars at a time, there was little congestion, and there was pretty much time for everyone to run. I bet you could do near 40 people and still have plenty of time on the track

Miata is definately cheaper than the IS to set up to the way you want...........since Miata is so exellent out of the box anyway you only have to do a few things to make it perfects...just remember to get a rollbar, that is the only way you will be allow on the track other than that everything is good.
my recommendation is to get the 94-95 Miata (that way it will have 1.8 and still OBD1)....LSD is a must in the Miata so make sure it has one.
