Potential new owner problems
Hi All, I am new to this forum and I tried searching but couldn't seem to find what I wanted. I am looking for key problems to lookout for when buying a first gen IS. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi trigun286.
I've only had my IS for a few weeks and asked a similar question over on the UK forum. Obviously there are the usual things to look for on a car that will be at least 12 years old but the only issues suggested to me were sticky brake calipers, rear sill/wheel arch corrosion and dodgy CD autochangers. I've come from Volvo/BMW/Merc/VAG and even if other members add to it, that's a short list.

#1 issue basically everybody has - stock CD changer fails a LOT. I went through 4 of them. You cannot find stock ones easily anymore as cheap used swapped parts as they are all broken now.
I dont know if "sticky" calipers is really an issue with this car. I had 1 of 4 calipers fail @ the 160-165K mark though. That was the only real unplanned mechanical failure I had on the car.
no other problems I am aware of. generally good cars but inspect them thoroghly check for rust and service history as you would any car
