Default Newbie question on increasing HP

Hi,

My first post here. I've had my IS300 for a little over a year now. It's a 2002 IS300 automatic transmission with e-shift. I have been thinking about ways to enhance the performance of the car. I've heard chipping is a good way. Anybody have any information on this? Is this something you'd recommend?

What are some of the best ways to enhance the performance of my car? I've noticed that off the line, the IS300 doesn't seem to quick (but maybe that's my auto tranny huh? haha) but at around 40, 50, 60 it performs nice, quick and smooth. What's the best way to improve this and get more HP? I want to go a little faster... hehe. I don't know a lot about cars, but would love to learn more. Your help would be really appreciated!

Adding an intake and a exhaust system would give you a small performance boost. Not to bad on the wallet either. You can spend anywhere from 600.00 to 1500.00 getting those items. A great website to see alot of diifferent items for your car is intense motor sports. You can do a search on yahoo for the website. If you have the $$$ then a supercharger or a turbo setup will give you the maximum performance increase but that stuff doesn't come cheap. That will run you anywhere from 4000.00 to whatever you can imagine... Good luck!!

Great info guys thanks.

What about chipping? Can I upgrade the chip in my IS and get better performance? Someone told me I could get like 30-50HP increase by upgrading the chip. This true?

You guys know anything about upgrading my chip?

AS far as I know there are no chip upgrades for the IS300. The computer system in the IS is pretty hard to get around. If you look at some of the guys out there running a turbo setup, they have bypassed the factory computer and use a stand alone engine management system such as Motec or Haltec. There are some intake systems that have a piggy-back ECU that is needed to change the air/fuel mixture. So thats about it for a chip upgrade. Check out Swift Racing and there Intake system. I will be changing mine out soon for there system..
