Hey all....
this is just a gripe that i have.
First off...i'm chris. I lurk around the Lexus forums. I' am planning on getting the LS400 sometime this year , I hope!!!!
Well...for the IS guys.
WHY!!!!???? Does Lexus market this car as a (pretty much) full luxury car???
In Japan they play commercials of the car on the track and it gives the consumers a better feel of what they are getting into. In the U.S. the commercials show a mid class couple jumping into the Lexus for a nigth on the town. This car isn't meant for a night on the town, well, it is and it isn't. This car craves track time.
Maybe i'm just mad....haha...

What about the IS commercial where the IS keeps morphing back and forth between the red and blue Team Lexus race car and a Millenium Silver stock IS racing through the streets? I think that commercial gives hint to its sporty character. True, haven't seen that one in awhile (just ES330 commercials lately).

maybe coz in Japan the RS200 is a sporty TOYOTA. Lexus wants the customers to perceive it as a Luxury car....
if u want to talk about bad marketing.. try Australia! I haven't seen a Lexus commercial on TV for the past Year or so....

I guess it's good to know that Lexus tried...

It's amazing to hear that the majority of our customers do not even know that Lexus is a branch of Toyota.
I guess Australia wants to push the Cosworth, hence no Lexus commercials!

I think the main problem is that Lexus/Toyota is having identity crisis with this car. If you compare Altezza RS200, AS200/IS200, and IS300, you'd realize they are targeted for different markets -- the car evolved from a low-cost, compact RWD sports car into an entry-level German luxury competittor.
I hope for the next generation, the sporty+luxury nature of the car would be more pronounced, and leave the pure sports nature to Supra, pure luxury to ES330.... such that Lexus doesn't have to try fitting an armrest into the car post-2002 and memory seats post-2004, and that it doesn't show commercials of a college girl getting an IS because it comes with a CD changer.
