What should I change after breaking in a new block? Also, what oil do you guys recommend. Right now I'm using Castrol 10w30 non-synthetic.
Thanks,
Ethan

Use the LS430 V8 filter or the good Denso Supra filter. Don't use the stock filter and definately don't use the Mobile1 or any other brand filter. The mobil one is nearly the same as the stock filter. It's fine, but not worth $10. Get the V8 filter. Toyota/Lexus part # 90915-20004
Here's the mobil 1 filter article on MkIV.com http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/par...il1/index.html

For oil Mobil 1 full syn is terrific and use the recommended weight for the car. If you want to go w/ the best use Redline.
Everything you ever wanted to know about oil, and filters.
Direct link to links section on MKIV.com. The last 4 articles are about oil. Enjoy.

You guys mentioned Castrol 10W-30 non-synthetic. I've always used Castrol non-synthetic myself with no problems...it's good stuff, along with Valvoline and Penzoil. Make sure it has "SL" classification on the container....that is the current SAE oil standard.
10W-30 is OK for higher temperatures and for areas that don't often go below freezing, but for most all-season use Lexus recommends 5W-30. it will flow quicker at cold temperatures on a cold start and get up to pressure quicker....and yet give the same protection in summer that 10W-30 does.
Yes, full synthetic (and synthetic blend) will protect better and resist viscosity breakdown at extreme temperatures......in Arctic and Sub-Arctic winters and in Southwestern desert summers.....and, of course, if you do high-engine stress driving like towing or autocrossing.
But for most normal driving in moderate-weather areas, regular oil is fine....you don't need to buy the expensive synthetic stuff at $4 a quart.
As for the oil filter, by law you don't have to use factory parts to maintain the engine warranty if you use a OK aftermarket filter like Lee Maxifilter, Purolator, Fram, NAPA, etc... I used Lee Maxifilters for years after the warranty periods with no problems. Save the recipts for proof of purchase. During the warranty period, though, I would recommend using the factory Toyota/Lexus filter. If you have ANY oil or filter-related problems, you'll probably have less trouble making a warranty claim if you can prove a history of using only factory filters.
