I have had this problem recently where I cannot fuel up more than 3/4 of a tank before it just clicks. I thought it was just the gas station ran out of fuel, but it seemed to become more common. Today, I went to the gas station with 1/4 tank remaining and I couldnt even add 1 gallon!? when I pulled out, fuel actually came flowing out! I tried to add a little more and reposition the filler and same result. clicks right away and fuel comes out when I pull out. what gives?? I dont have any CEL.

 

Could be the fuel sender not reading correct.

 

I ran the car until it was on E which took me maybe 3-4 gallons worth of driving. Went to get gas again with the nozzle going in half way and it filled up 15 gallons. I think the fuel sender is reading correctly. Its just the intermittent workings of the fueling at gas station very perplexing. I think it is to do with the EVAP system and something was probably causing the vapors in the fuel tank not to be released during fueling. Anyone know much about our EVAP system so I can look to diagnose my problem and see what I need to replace? no engine code

Tank venting. Lots of possibilities. You have only one option really. Start replacing lines and purges at the tank. Roll over etc...

 

Have you tried different pumps? Different gas stations? Or are all of these experiences with the same station/pump

 

I am seeing intermittent behavior now. earlier this year it would occasionally do fueling to 3/4 full. And that is with various gas stations and pumps. I havent tried to pump with a different pump if a problem happens. I guess that will be the next step to pump at the pump that worked in the past to full and change to a different pump if one doesnt seem to do the job and eliminate some possibilities. sure hope I dont have to start replacing parts at random. I saw scotty kilmer on youtube and he basically said to put some compressed air in the evap line to the intake and clear the lines. any suggestion which line i would blow air at?
