2013 Lexus IS 250 Jerking on highway/acceleration
To start, my 2013 Lexus is250 is at 172k miles. Automatic transmission. RWD. I get regular oil changes ~5k miles. Recently had spark plugs and belt changed about 5-7k miles ago, also cleaned throttle body at same time. Air filter changed about 2 years ago, maybe 20-25k miles ago. I drive mostly highway and have not had any issues leading up to this.
Just about a month ago, I started feeling subtle jerks while accelerating on highway. There was a specific range of speeds that was the worst with jerking/uneasy acceleration from 50-60 MPH. To stop the jerking I would let off the gas and slowly press back on it to get past this troubling driving speed range and it would drive mostly smooth 60MPH and up. After maybe a week or so I started noticing subtle jerks at slower speeds also when accelerating starting around maybe 20MPH. It happened mid drive, and would be at its worst when I was on the highway and having to slow and pick back up to highway speeds due to traffic. I would feel hesitancy to jump into the higher speeds when getting stuck behind slow drivers because getting my car above 60MPH, I knew it would experience jerks.
Also, while not always, my car would also have hesitation picking up speed. RPMs were not revving but at the regular rate that I push the pedal to increase speed, the car was not taking off as it normally does. I would merge on to the highway and cars would be flying by me and I felt my car was just not taking off as it should be.
After researching online and talking to friends with experience w cars, I came to the conclusion that there was a problem with the throttle position sensor. Looked it up and learned lexus throttle position sensors are not detachable from the throttle body so my dad and I purchased a whole new throttle body. We opted for a remanufactured one for half the price of a new one.
After throttle body was put on, I have noticed a smoother ride, not having trouble in the 50-60MPH range but am now having the jerking feeling in higher speeds when accelerating. I'm unsure if the remanufactured throttle body was a bad decision or if I may need to reset the battery??
Looking for any suggestions or others with experience with this type of an issue. Any help is appreciated!!
